On this CD the Archangel Voices vocal ensemble explores a rich variety of Orthodox liturgical repertoire in the English language, focusing on the hymns of Pascha. The present CD draws widely upon both Byzantine and Slavic heritage and includes selections from the traditional repertoire of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries (Bortniansky, Dyletskiy, Makarov) as well as settings by contemporary American Orthodox composers--Walter Obleschuk, Alexander Ruggieri, Jessica Suchy-Pilalis, and Tikey Zes, among others. Through its recordings Archangel Voices aims to bring the beauty of Orthodox liturgical music before a wide audience of listeners and to serve as a vehicle for spreading the Orthodox faith through its music.
