I received a letter about a parish bookstore plan. How does this program work?
This is not a plan that involves any sort of pre-purchase on the part of a parish.
When the program was first presented, we took stock of all the established parishes in the registry at the Archdiocese and created affiliate marketing account for them within the online store system. At that time, we were working with a different software package that had less access available for affiliates.
Once we upgraded to a more robust software platform, the program and earned referral commissions carried over, however the instructions for accessing the affiliate dashboard changed. As a result, the instructions given in the first letter are no longer useful.
When the program was launched, parish links were added to a page on the archdiocese website:
This page provides sample links that, once clicked, show the Orthodox Marketplace storefront with a modified header that includes the name of the parish earning the commission. The idea behind the bookstore was that it was an alternative means for parishes without local bookstores to gain commission through referring sales from their parishioners.
Customization options were also made available for parishes that wished to have the store contents presented in a sort of 'wrapper' that matched their parish website design. These services are still available through the Department of Internet Ministries.
To find out more about this program, it is more helpful to review the affiliate questions section. This section addresses the process of administering the account getting paid, etc. in greater detail.
